Last weekend I decided it was time to have an Akashic Record Reading with Supernal Friend, Helen, from Ripples of Light. After the session, I felt I’d gained some clarity and perspective on issues that are currently going on in my life. Upon reflection, the Records seemed an apt subject for Supernal Living.

What are Akashic Records? Metaphysical literature is rich with references to the records. I’ve seen them called a Heavenly Library– a center where all the history of the universe is contained. Lately, analogies to the Internet have been appearing. Some believe the Biblical Book of Life is actually the Akashic Records. Everyone has a separate record that contains their individual history of all their past lives, relationships, life contracts, and between life events. You name it, it’s in the Records.

I realize this represents a tremendous paradigm shift for Westerners who still believe this is the one go-around on the earth plane. After that, it’s heaven or hell for eternity. If you firmly stand in that camp, then the Akashic Records are the stuff of fantasy. If you can entertain a different point of the view—read on.

Is an Akashic Record reading like a Psychic Reading? Yes and no. Personally, I’m not someone who goes to psychics for readings. All psychics are not equal. There are people who have gifts to tap into various levels of information. Sometimes they are complete fakes. Quite frankly, I’ve been to a few psychic fairs and the energy I picked up from most of them sent me running.

Often people go to psychics for a fortune telling experience. Will I get a new job? Will I find a mate? For myself, I would rather take questions like those up in times of personal prayer and meditation. Handing over power to some stranger to tell me how to live my life seems foolhardy. Developing my own intuition and connection to Spirit makes a lot more sense.

Akashic Record readers certainly must have psychic abilities. It is the source of their information that should be clearer than the psychic on the corner. The AR Reader knows how to go to the guardians and guides of the records and communicate with those entities. It’s akin to going to the National Library and seeking the assistance of the Head Librarian.

What’s the value of an Akashic Record Reading?

Picture going to counselors who know everything about you before you ever enter their office. When I say everything—I mean everything. Not that they will tell you everything; being wise they edit their comments. But they have access to information that can shed light on puzzling life situations.

For instance, perhaps there is a troubling relationship—somebody who holds unexplained animosity and causes continual turmoil. An Askashic Record reading might reveal a past life where you transgressed and hurt that person. You might gain a broader understanding of what is happening between the two of you and figure out a way to heal the relationship now that you know you are not merely an innocent victim of unfair treatment.

In another situation you may have a sudden feeling of recognizing a total stranger, an odd attachment out of the blue. A Reading could reveal that person was in your family circle. There is the concept of Soul Families, where people often incarnate repeatedly, playing different roles in each other’s lives. Discovering someone has been a spouse, child, or sibling can explain a lot.

Record Readings can also shed light on habits, ruts, and destructive patterns. When you feel the need for a soul check-up, an Akashic Record Reading can be an enlightening experience.

Who offers Akashic Record Readings? Learning to read the Records requires training. There are actually established associations to certify intuitives as official Akashic Record Readers. Obviously, it requires a certain psychic talent that is refined in the training process. You can find more information on the web with an Akashic Record search and see the various places that offer training and certification.

Like selecting any professional from a plumber to a doctor, due diligence is recommended before engaging a Records Reader and investing in a session. I sort of stumbled into the whole arena. And that will be the topic of my next blog–Dragged to An Akashic Record Reading.

A couple of weeks ago I asked people to list their favorite home remedies as part of a book hop. The most common answer had something to do with honey, which is a marvelous substance. The most interesting answer mentioned soaking socks in pneumonia to keep away snakes. (I think she meant ammonia. She must live in Florida!)

My favorite home remedy is Epsom Salts. In this day and age of expensive drugs, many people have lost the knowledge of age-old, cost-effective remedies. Epsom salts are granules of magnesium sulfate, available in every grocery and drug store in America. Named after the town of Epsom, England, the salts provide a range of relief and health benefits. My favorites:

1. Epsom salt baths–Whenever I feel a cold coming on, I immediately pour a cup of epsom salts and some essential oils in the tub and enjoy a good soak. There is an energetic frequency to the salts and oils that stimulates the immune system. Energy healers believe that epsom salts clear away negative energy. In my mothering days, I placed my children in epsom baths at the first sign of a sniffle and sore throat. Get on the offensive early when a virus strikes and you’ll avoid a full-blown illness.

Epsom salts are also anti-inflammatory and relieve sprains, arthritis, and other painful conditions.

Side benefit: baby-soft skin. Epsom salts are a natural exfoliant. You’ll feel like a new you!

2. Natural laxative. Drinking a dose of salts is part of an annual health regime in England. The salts draw moisture into the bowels for a beneficial cleanse. Don’t worry–they don’t taste too bad. More like mineral water than sea water. A teaspoon or less in a cup of water can give you a whole new lease on life.

3. Anti-fungal. Take on athlete’s foot and yeast infections with epsom salt soaks. Adding some essential oils, such as Melaleuca, will add an extra punch to get rid of that annoying itch.

4. Fertilize your plants. Don’t throw your epsom salt solution down the drain, pour it on your plants. They will love the mineral-rich liquid and thank you with beautiful flowers and vegetables.

So that’s my Supernal Health Tip of the Day. Discover the power of epsom salts–soak in a relaxing bath tonight!

Greetings to anyone hopping by from the MommyReads Too Much Book Hop. Blog hops are a fun way to jump around the web and meet new authors. Here at Supernal Living I share my interests in developing multi-dimensional living. Energy healing, spirituality, natural foods and remedies are an unending source of fascination for me. I also write novels that often incorporate some of those elements–and usually a fair amount of comedy and romance.

The novel with the most of those elements is AIN’T LOVE GRAND? Truly a book from the heart that I wrote after my lawyer husband fired me as his secretary (but not as his wife).

Ain't Love Grand?

Persephone Jones, has a new neighbor in Peeler, Oklahoma—hot shot lawyer, Jason Brooks. She’s a vegan; he likes his steaks rare. She’s about saving Mother Earth while he protects the interests of Big Business. Their attraction is mutual, but disturbing. And life gets even more complicated when the whole town is caught in a conflict that pits these two on opposite sides of a political fence….Foreword Magazine says AIN’T LOVE GRAND? is “written with a fresh voice, an impeccable sense of comedic timing, vivid narrative, and fascinating characters.”

It was that “shaman” word, which conjured up images of voodoo witch doctors to my Bible-Belt sensibilities. However, I’ve met a few women via the web over the last couple of years who are embracing shamanism and they appear to be lovely healers. So with mild trepidation, I downloaded a sample and soon found myself hitting the “buy” button.

Shaman, Healer, Sage is a fascinating exploration of an ancient healing system written by a Western doctor and explorer. For myself, the greatest value of the book came from the detailed explantion of the energy fields and chakras. My personal experience sensing and working with the “Ever-Flowing Streams,” as I dubbed them in my spiritual memoir, has made them a great mystery. Villoldo’s book contains the most enlightening information I’ve read about what he calls the Luminous Energy Field.

Giving up his mainstream Western medical research, Villoldo traveled to Inka and Amazon shamans to learn an entirely different world view and method of medicine. Shamans see and work with the energy fields that Western culture is only beginning to recognize. Villoldo keeps references to an earth-based religion to a minimum and mostly makes sense of the various properties of the human energy fields and how practitioners might help their patients.

Personally, I had a huge “ah-ha” moment about three-quarters into the book when he talked about entities attaching themselves to people. If you’ve read Ever-Flowing Streams of Healing Energy, you’ll know that was ultimately the best explanation I had for a range of life-long difficulties. Until Shaman, Healer, Sage, I’d never come across a book that seemed to pin-point my situation. In Villoldo’s world, it’s very common!

The last section of the book deals with the passage into death that every soul makes. People need to be helped out of the world as much as they need to be helped into the world. Once the spirit leaves the body, it goes through transitions into the spirit realm. Western culture has largely disconnected with the sacred, especially death rituals. Villoldo paints a compelling picture of what may be part of the journey and why it’s important to assist loved-ones, even after the body has ceased breathing.

While I don’t feel the call to leap into shamanism, there is much to be learned from ancient traditions. Villoldo has written a range of books from his South American experiences. Perhaps we’re living in age when the imbalances of Western thinking will move toward more harmonious blend of other cultures and save the earth from destruction in the process.

Today marks of the 5th anniversary of my Dad’s return to the heavenly plane. In 2003 he experienced a stroke that suddenly changed both our lives. He went from being an independent widower (with several lady friends) running his real estate business to being an impaired, elderly man. I went from enjoying my life 2,000 miles away to becoming his caregiver. In other words, the lives we had known were over.

But in the loss, there was a lot of gain, even though it didn’t feel like it at the time. I railed against the situation to God and my best friends. Dad acted out his frustration in various ways, expecially barking at me in the car as I drove him around. He made a good physical recovery, but the initial stroke left him aphasic, robbing him of many of the basic words of the English language. So, he invented his own language and I became his interpreter to the world.

But we also became boon companions. During the summer of 2003 he began talking about his experiences in the Korean War, reliving moments long buried. He needed to come to terms with that period of his life. I started to appreciate the struggles he had overcome and the life he created for us. On Sunday afternoons we shared a cocktail (he still made a mean Manhattan) and listened to Frank Sinatra and Stan Kenton.

His will to live kept him going another four years, despite a body dwindling all capacity. I wrote this poem and have posted it before, but it plays like a favorite old song and reminds me of the father I was so very lucky to call Daddy.

HE’S STILL HERE

by Dana Taylor

The old man stumbles, about to fall

To strangers he’s barely a man, no one at all

Just a stick figure, bent and confused

Society’s discard in the heap of refuse

His speech is garbled, a childish babble

One more elder in the crowd of old rabble

But look beyond the deterioration

Old bones once defended a nation

See in his eyes the trace of the soldier

The body is aged, but the spirit no older

Before the years of wife, children and work

He reported for duty he never would shirk

Marching from home at the outbreak of war

He traveled to lands never seen much before

A callow recruit full of bluster and youth

He fought for liberty, freedom and truth

The sights that he saw brought shock and dismay

Burned into his memory day after day

A boy caught in battle, unsure and green

Transformed through war to a mighty Marine

Forever changed, forever the fighter

Now time is the enemy, it pulls the noose tighter

He faces life with a warrior’s heart

Each day is a battle, right from the start

He won’t give in to helpless despair

Won’t use a cane or a smooth wheeling chair

His walk may wobble as he strolls round the block

His fierce independence comes as a shock

The old man knows death, struggle and fear

Look closely, you’ll see, the Marine is still here

Several weeks ago I posted a blog called “The Butterfly Angels of Joplin, MO.” That has proven to be my most visited post. Obviously, people are interested in the subject of guardian angels. The Supernal Friends have some good angel tales. I’ll have to organize them into a coherent ebook one of these. Don’t you wonder if some of those passengers aboard the Costa Concordia had their angels at work? Four thousand people were on that ship and the great majority survived. I’ll bet there are many stories to share.

But, back to Joplin, MO. I made a connection with a resident, Linda Henderson, through the Holiday Blog Hop. She survived the huge tornado that ripped through her town. She has allowed me to reprint her experience:

After going through this horrific storm I can tell you that but for the grace of God there would have been a lot more deaths. My entire apartment complex, and there were at least 350 people living there was virtually wiped out. We only lost one lady. Most of the places that were left were the areas where the people were, the closet, the stairwell and the bathroom. We were in the eye of the tornado, so we went through the front and back side when it was an EF5. It was an experience I don’t care to repeat.

I was in my hallway closet. My daughter’s family lived on the other side of the complex in an upstairs apartment and they rode it out with about twelve people under the stairs in the hallway downstairs. I had a downstairs apartment. The one over me was totally gone. The one across the hall from me was totally gone. It took them a while to get me out of my apartment because I’m disabled with RA so I needed help to climb out over the debris. My poor daughter sent her husband over to see if I was alive while it was still hailing and lightning really bad. I could hear him calling for me over the noise of the hail and rain. At least I knew at that point that they were all alive.

My poor youngest daughter and her family were in a neighboring town and she had called me right as I was diving into the closet and at that point I told her the windows were blowing out of the apartment and we were definitely getting hit hard. Right before we lost cell phone towers I yelled at her that I loved her and seriously I thought that would be the last time I ever spoke to her. She was so scared. They started back here and when they got as close as they could all you could see was devastation. We couldn’t get a message through to her that we were all alive. She started digging through the apartment looking for me, I can only imagine how devastating this was for her. In a way, she’s had a tougher time dealing than we have. Her house had some damage, but it was livable. I live with her now. Believe me, there isn’t any rental property in town at this point. We are a strong city though and we will survive. Our faith is strong and I know that will carry us through. Thank you for listening.

Thanks for sharing your story, Linda. I know Joplin has literally picked up the pieces and forged ahead into the future with faith and optimism. You are an example for all of us to emulate.

Blessings to you, your family, and your town–

Dana Taylor

One of the more difficult aspects of living a Supernal Life, is walking the last miles with someone on their earthly journey. This past week, the writing world and her family said goodbye to Linda (L.C.) Evans.

Linda came into my life last April. She was the first person to post an unsolicited review of Ever-Flowing Streams. She said in the review “This book reached out to me,” and we soon reached out to each other. We had a lot in common, from our age group, our interest in holistic living, to our experiences slugging it out in the world of publishing. She told me she had some sort of growth in her stomach area and was afraid to go to a doctor. I encouraged her to seek medical care. That led to a surgery and the discovery of a rare and virulent cancer.

As the months unfolded, we traded emails and talked several times. She became a daily recipient of healing energy from the Supernal Friends team. Despite the fact we had a sense that Linda was approaching her final exit point, we knew she needed constant energy for the journey. She fought the good fight. She didn’t want to leave her family, especially the grandson she was raising. Her writing was finally being recognized. We Interrupt The Date was a breakout bestseller. There was so much more she wanted to say and do.

The last time I spoke to Linda, there were a lot of tears. Part of Supernal Living is being there to support people through the hard times, allowing them to express pain, frustration and grief. We ended the conversation with a prayer. At least I could offer that much. I hope that our prayerful vigilance helped her and the family.

Linda will be missed, which is the way it should be. Someone who gave and loved leaves a hole behind. But, they also leave a legacy. I’m sure the encouragement Linda gave her grandson will be the gift that keeps giving. If there’s one thing I’ve discovered after saying final goodbyes to several loved ones is that a part of them remains. They not only live on in the spiritual realm, they also come back in memories time and again. Truly, love never dies.

So, farewell Linda. It was an honor to know you. Thanks for inviting me on your journey. You’ll always be a part of me.

One of the highlights of my week is Sunday evening when I snuggle onto my cozy California King and read the LA Times. This week one of the headlines that caught my eye was “L.A. crime dip belies bad economy.” The article says that despite the predictions of pundits that the recession would result in increased crime, a downward trend of murder, rape and robbery has continued over the past several years. Experts are puzzled. The police department likes to take a lot of credit, but admit there must be more to the story. Perhaps people within the communities are simply setting new standards of behavior.

I’m sure all of those elements have played a part. However, I smiled because I think there has also been a “Supernal Effect” taking place. What’s that, you ask? Have you ever heard of the Maharishi Effect? It goes back to the 1970′s and the whole TM movement. The idea is that if as little as 1% of a population sends positive energy to reduce crime, the rate of violence will go down. Now, there are conflicting research reports as to the validity to the hypothesis. But, it seems like an excellent idea, doesn’t it?

Not being of the Transcendental Meditation persuasion, I like the ring of “Supernal Effect” better. This is when people individually pray for their cities and states. The collective positive energy raises the vibrations of the population. Just as illness disappears within a body when the energetic value is elevated, the lower vibrations of violence can perhaps be lifted and diffused. Of course, this is only a theory, but I believe there are many like-minded people understanding the power of the collective conscious.

I begin my mornings with prayer and meditation. I ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and pray for the people in my bundle. Then I pray for Los Angeles, because I live here. I visualize angels and a calming energy permeating the community. I attempt to send out a high vibration of love. I also send calming thoughts to the many fault lines that lie under the city and tell them to move gently. I mean, what can it hurt? If there are other people (and I know of at least two) who are doing the same thing, then perhaps the Supernal Effect is coming into play to bring the crime rate down.

Can’t prove it, but wouldn’t it be a wonderful experiment if more people consciously prayed for their communities on a daily basis? Let’s spread the Supernal Effect!

Have a lovely day–

Books become classics for a reason–they stand the test of time. The words of an author long gone from the planet still resonate with new generations. Such a book is The Healing Light by Agnes Sanford. I first read the book in 1983–the year Agnes passed. It began a life-long exploration for me of healing prayer and learning principles of health.

The book sat on my keeper shelf for decades, making one house move after another with my family. But I hadn’t read in its entirety in years. I’d moved onto the modern gurus, few of which reside on the keeper shelf. Last month I felt the urge to read it again. Interestingly, in a prayer session with Helen (see Supernal Friends) she said, “There’s a book you haven’t read in a long time. You’re supposed to read it again.” I knew she was talking about The Healing Light.

Published originally in 1947, the book touches on concepts touted by Hay House bestsellers. But before there was Dyer, Deepak or Abraham/Hicks–there was Agnes Sanford. Agnes brings elements of faith to her understanding of energy healing that is often missing in today’s literature. Agnes knew beyond a doubt from whence her power came.

Raise in China by missionary parents and then married for decades to a Protestant minister, Agnes Sanford was a pioneer in the healing ministry of the twentieth century. She taught that prayer is an act of co-creation between God and man. Her references to light, vibration, and scientific discoveries of her day show a mind that captured the whole picture of mind, body, and spirit.

Beneath all her teaching is a connection with the Christ Spirit. Agnes Sanford became the conduit of a healing source far beyond her human capabilities. She taught that anyone can also become such a conduit, given the practice and motivation.

Being an intercessor can be overwhelming. Increasingly, the Supernal Friends get calls to send healing energy to many people dealing with critical situations. One principle in the book that has helped me stay in the healing game is the idea of “bundles.” Nobody can pray for everybody. But, each of us can have certain prayer assignments in our “bundles.” If everyone prays for the people and situations in their individual bundles, the needs will be met.

In my meditation time, I ask for the bundle assignments to be made clear and I send healing energy to the best of my ability. Admittedly, my bundle feels fairly meager compared to the ocean of need in the world. But, I do my part and don’t allow guilt to drag me down for everything I don’t pray about.

The Bundle Concept is a good survival tool to the active healer/mediator.

One of the gals in my bundle who is struggling with cancer told me she has read The Healing Light three times this year. It has been source of spiritual and emotional strength. She’s even dreamed that Agnes Sanford has ministered to her as she sleeps.

When a book offers hope and enlightenment for over sixty years, it’s a classic.
